Nov 11, 2014

Adrienne Bessey scored 71.491% to clinch both perpetual trophies awarded at the 2014 US Dressage Finals. The wins follow a set of victories at the regional championships in which she won USDF region 7 Intermediate I amateur championship.

The US Dressage Finals presented by Adequan® concluded on Sunday, November 9th at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. This year’s competitor roster included over 400 entries for the US Dressage Finals and USDF Dressage in the Bluegrass open show.  Riders representing all nine United States Dressage Federation (USDF) regions and 38 states across the country (and the District of Columbia) competed in what was an emotional and action-packed four days.

On the final day of the US Dressage Finals, Adrienne Bessey of Thousand Oaks, CA rode her talented mare Dido to a dramatic win scoring 71.491% to clinch both perpetual trophies awarded for the day.

“She just keeps getting better and better. I don’t think there’s a limit to what she’s capable of. I’m so grateful for this wonderful horse.”

Bessey bested the Prix St. Georges reserve champion with a commanding lead of more than 6 points to win the Janine Westmoreland Malone Perpetual Trophy, presented by the United States Dressage Federation to the Prix St. Georges adult amateur champion.

The high score also landed her the new Lloyd Landkamer Perpetual Trophy presented by Janet Foy for the highest scoring FEI mare.  The wins follow an impressive set of victories for Bessey and Dido at the regional championships in which she won both the California Dressage Society Horse of the Year title at Prix St. Georges as well as the USDF region 7 Intermediate I amateur championship, securing both titles with scores over 70%.

“She just keeps getting better and better.  I don’t think there’s a limit to what she’s capable of.  I’m so grateful for this wonderful horse.” said Bessey immediately after winning.  Bessey plans to compete the charismatic Danish Warmblood (by Royal Hit out of a Donnerhall mare) in the CDIs this coming winter.
