In one of her poems, Bryant writes, “Don’t even in your wildest dreams believe // that I shall miss you, lover, if you leave. // Tho’ our great passion burned the winter through, // I’m not the type to sit alone and stew // Because your ardor now has fled. // Oh, I shall don my brightest dress of red. // When Spring burst forth both fresh and green, // I’ll be the first to strut and preen. // Should I be one to bear such pain?”
