Not every television revival gets greeted with open arms in the entertainment industry. However, when it comes to The Conners, a follow-up to the 1990s comedy series Rosanne, starring Rosanne Barr and John Goodman, fans celebrate the show with zeal. Still, all good things come to an end. Speaking with France 24, John Goodman hinted that The Conners might know when the series finale will occur.
“I think we may be coming to an end on it, I’m not sure,” Goodman told the outlet during a one-on-one interview. “It’s lasted longer than I thought we would. It was just supposed to be like an eight [episode] show and out thing at one point, but they picked us up again, and they keep picking us up.”
Don’t worry, fans of The Conners, you don’t have to flip tables just yet. The show is returning for 13 more episodes, with an option for nine more. At least, that’s what the smoke on the street indicates. The Conners aired its Season 5 finale on ABC to the tune of 3.6 million viewers, an impressive number, to say the least.
Executive producer Bruce Helford seemingly confirmed the show’s curtain call as well, telling TVLine, “Sara Gilbert expressed to the network that we don’t want to go out without knowing that we are going out with a series finale so we can build to the right ending — and at this point in time, we feel that [next season] is possibly going to be the last season of The Conners.“
Thankfully, The Conners is in excellent standing and should be able to end the series on its own terms. Too many good shows get canceled unceremoniously in this day and age. It’s nice that The Conners could hold enough sway to determine its end.
“I would not [say that] definitively because the numbers were so good this season, and we’ve all had a really great time… but it’s definitely a possibility,” Helford added about The Conners closing its final chapter at the end of season six.
Will you miss The Conners if the show ends with its next season? Is the show better or worse after Rosanne Barr exited the series? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
